Prominent local music teacher, Mary Fitzgerald, has captivated an international audience as a wonderfully talented Celtic harper and singer, with a style that ranges from delicate to hard-driving. She has played for princes, prime ministers and presidents during her career as the Navy's chief White House support musician, and distinguished herself as the only Navy Band soloist to perform inside the White House, regularly appearing before the President and First Lady and at high-visibility engagements for Heads of State, including President George Bush, Sr.'s Luncheon for Nelson Mandela, President Clinton's St. Patrick's Day parties, and Vice President Gore's private dinner for Russian Prime Minister Chornomyrdin.

A highly sought-after collaborative artist in the Washington, DC area, Ms. Fitzgerald has recorded with nationally known Celtic groups, her playing described by Dirty Linen magazine as "the shining moment on..." on Grace Griffith and Connemara's Wammie Award CD, Siren Song, and with The Arlington Journal declaring that "...Fitzgerald's harp gives the pipes a run for the money..." on IONA's charming and best CD, The Sound of IONA.

She has performed rare Civil War songs and haunting Celtic tunes in concert with Bluegrass stars Bill Emerson and Mike Stein of Country Current, and given workshops addressing stylistic and ornamentation practices of Celtic Harp music. In addition to her extensive teaching schedule, she is also the Celtic Harp Competition chair for the Southern Maryland Celtic Festival.
